"I'm Not Ready to Make Nice"

My Most Surprising Gift

I’m not hard to surprise, I love gifts of all kinds. Each one is a surprise to me. But if I have to choose just one, I could narrow it down to two. That’s close, right?

We had a desk with a hutch, and any time someone would bump or lean against the desk/hutch, the hutch would come crashing down on our (then) new flat panel monitor. Every time someone come through the door, we would simply cringe, we just knew it would happen whether we issued warnings or not. Come Christmas time, my husband got me a fully assembled desk, complete with a stable hutch. He hid it for a month and a half in the garage. How I never seen it, I have no idea, because I had ventured out there many times!

The second would be when my husband got me my very first sewing machine! A singer, and that puppy held up dandy. It’s still holding up, even being out of time. I was devastated when the timing went screwy. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find someone to repair a sewing machine? Jeepers.

This year, I’m attempting to hold out for a good ole’ Target visit. Being an hour and a half one way to drive, it’s a treat!

So, tell me. What is or was one of your most surprising gifts?

Cowgirl Chocolates 1/3 lb Sampler Giveaways Ends 12/05/09

Every things nice with a little sugar and spice. Isn’t it? Ohhh yes, it is. Cowgirl Chocolates can prove it.

When the package arrived from Cowgirl Chocolates, and I opened the box and saw the gorgeous red box inside, I didn’t want to open it! It was so pretty, wrapped in ribbon, adorned with the sweet little star on top. Being the country girl I am, I was in love. Marilyn, the head cowgirl over there, has great taste!

This is chocolate with a kick. Whatever your chocolate need be. Ladies, we all have a need for chocolate at one time or another. How many occasions can you think of? Cowgirl Chocolates creates a “just because” chocolate occasion, sporting the spiced up flavors that’s sure to make your toes curl!

After I finally opened my pretty little red box, my husband walked by and nabbed a piece of candy. He just happened to pick up Buckin’ Hot Habanero Caramel, HA! He ran with it. Straight to the sink for water. That’ll surely teach him to nab my goodies again. Now the mix of chocolate and spices are good, really good! But not all will set you on a running trip to the waterin’ hole. My daughter and I got to taste some of the Cowgirl Chocolates that didn’t have a kick. One of our favorites were Raspberry lemonade dark chocolate, an old cowgirl recipe blended to perfection with raspberry, lemon and deep dark chocolate. And on my “to get” list is Sarsaparilla Milk Chocolate, milk chocolate swirled with sarsaparilla (root beer) from the good ol’ days.

Why don’t you wander on over to the Flavor Guide, and see what you can find that you’ll like. With or without a kick.

I love the keepsake packaging they have.

Head Cowgirl Marilyn Lysohir founded Cowgirl Chocolates in 1997.

Her two favorite things in the world are art (she has a notable career as a ceramic sculptor) and chocolate. In fact her first job was working in a chocolate factory in
Pennsylvania. Marilyn mingled some favorite memories
with some new ideas to create an American original,
Cowgirl Chocolates.

Cowgirl Chocolates has won a total of 16 product awards
and 2 packaging awards and is located in Moscow, Idaho
USA.  It has also been featured on the Food Network
on “Unwrapped” and “Extreme Cuisine” and in the New
York Times and Toronto Star among others.

Cowgirl Chocolates is kindly offering one of our readers a 1/3 pound sampler package of their chocolates! Don’t want to wait to see if you win? Then you can purchase the same sampler for $12.95.

Gooseberry Patch ~ Christmas With Family & Friends Ends 12/01/09

Around 5 – 6  years ago, I heard someone say “Gooseberry Patch”, and my curiosity was peaked. I headed straight for their website. And have had it memorized since then. It was love at first “site”. A charming,  country online store, chocked FULL of goodies. I can’t even begin to make a wish list for them. My wish list would literally be a mile long. This is probably one of the most difficult reviews I have written, not because of the company, or their products, but their wealth of wonderful goodies and cookbooks. It’s like a potato chip, can’t choose just one.

Before I found Gooseberry Patch, I had little to no interest in cookbooks. All the cookbooks I had been given, or purchased just never grabbed my attention. They were boring, or I easily lost interest in them, soon to retire on a shelf or be donated to the local library. I often ran into recipes that had ingredients I had never even heard of before. When I flipped open the cover of my very first Gooseberry Patch cookbook, I headed straight to the kitchen. Their cookbooks have what I call REAL recipes. I love that I can grab a recipe, and I have all ingredients on hand. I have been hooked on Gooseberry Patch since day 1. And I’m proud of that. I hope that you, our readers will enjoy Gooseberry Patch as much as I do, if that’s even possible. My love runs deep!

You see, Gooseberry Patch cookbooks, are not just recipes. The pages are full of tips, tricks, hints, and good old fashioned Country Blessings, and charm. It can teach you how to add the smallest of small to an everyday dish, to make it memorable. If you don’t have an interest in Christmas Cookbooks, then by all means, visit Gooseberry Patch, and take a look at the wide variety of cookbook choices they have available, there is something for everyone  there! Happy Thursday

Happy Thursday

With the holidays coming and everyone rushing to make sure their family is covered have you stopped to think of those doing with out?  When I turn on the news I am constantly seeing families losing their homes and have no place to go.  I see people who have no heat in their homes and up where I live that is not just sad but is potentially deadly (I’m not being dramatic, someone died last year because they had no heat).

Here are a few things you can do to help.

While You’re at the store grab an extra gift to add to Toys For Tots the boxes will be out very soon.

Clean out your closests and donate those old coats, hats, mittens, and gloves.  The Salvation Army is happy to receive them, Goodwill’s donations are way down and they need them, and there are many other charities looking for donations as well.

Clean out your pantry and stock a food pantry.  Go through your cupboards and get rid of those items that are still good but you’re not going to use.

goodwill

When you’re at the store and shopping plan a meal, get the items for it and drop it off at the food pantry.  Call your local food pantry and see if they can take items that need refrigerated or frozen many can.

Those of us that coupon donate some of your surplus.  Our Women’s Resource Center is in need of: Sanitary Needs, Toothbrushes & Paste, Razors, Shampoo, Soap, Make Up, you get the idea.

Even if you only drop off one item as you pass by that is one need filled!

What Does Home For The Holidays Bring To Mind?

happyfall4

To me it means a movies ideal circumstance.  You know a warm home, crackling fire, perfectly wrapped gifts under the tree etc.  Many people strive for this and I really don’t think it meets every day life.  Every day life for me would be a movie scene of someone trying to keep their home warm, looking for the 1 gift my child wants and frantic because there are only a few days  until Christmas.

The holidays are coming and coming fast.  Halloween isn’t far off and then Black Friday ooops I mean the forgotten holiday Thanksgiving.  Remember the turkey and dressing and all the fixings as your family sits around the table thinking of all the things they are are thankful for?

The economy is hard and before putting yourself into debt that you cannot repay in January or February sit your children down and let them know the meaning of the holidays.  Focus on making the days fun.

Have a potluck party and ask everyone to bring a dish and family friendly video to trade.  Have them bring their kids.  Don’t focus on perfect and Martha Stewart focus on fun.  Most of my best memories as a kid have nothing to do with our financial stature.  My parents always did holiday hopping, going to friends houses for a small party and reciprocating.  It was fun to play with kids who I normally wouldn’t have.  It was fun because my mom made punch w/ a cool jello mold ice cube in the punch bowl.

There are so many fun things that can be done start planning FUN now and how you can pull it off with merriment.  It isn’t the number of gifts, the number will be forgotten.  Its how you celebrate and with who.
